Be Safe!

I went for a quick drive down town because there was an amazing breeze out tonight - it kind of reminded me of the breeze that blows in the afternoon by the ocean, or an eastern beach. Anyway, I couldn't help but notice some really off looking guys ambling around downtown - it's understandable, the town I am in, like many major cities, probably has a homeless problem that only really makes itself known at night. And not to pigeonhole the homeless, there are many other individuals who come out at night that have nothing but the worst intentions if they get an opportunity..

One thing i've learned by trying so many domestic violence cases / encountering/interacting with so many domestic violence defendants - while i'm proud justice has been served and they have received representation, i'm also very realistic, and many of them make me worry about the women that i care about in my family and in my life. it almost makes me wish it was mandatory that girls take self-defense classes, it's too easy to underestimate the number of perps out there, and too easy to overestimate your own ability to defend yourself. Boys do this too - I'm just as culpable as the next guy who thinks he can handle a potential attacker purely by virtue of belief in his own ability to fend off a criminal, and we have to learn to humanize ourselves a little more as well. Anyway, be careful anyone who reads this blog, you might be in the neighborhood of some of some repeat offenders, like, i'm sad to say, many of our DV defendants. It may seem paternalistic, but even if it is fraught with patrimony to say it, from a guy to any female readers, just keep an eye out and be safe
