Is there anything more purposefully attention-seeking & self-congratulating than when people say things publicly or on a facebook profile like, "X graduate school owns my soul", Occupation: "Y law school rules my life", or something like "My status: 50 pages finished, 105 to go, here we go all-nighter, why did I go to Z school."

When people let their egos out of the closet to bitch in the most fashionably public, and attention-grabbing way possible like that (usually through some social networking service), it makes me think that they're essentially begging for attention in a politically correct way.
