Tomorrow I have to fly to Delaware, which makes me a little sad because I'd rather not :( and can't wait to come back to the Ham. This summer I'll be working as an extern for Legal Aid, shadowing criminal defense attorneys, developing a network so I can make bank and be debt-free within 2-to-3 years after law school (un-HEARD of for a law school graduate, I am so grateful, many of my classmates are going to be up to $100,000 in debt) - and, helping implement some sort of federal defender's project to complement public defender resources & expedite justice without detracting from fairness issues.
All in all I'm pretty excited, and it will look great on my resume. While I'm not paid for it, like so many 1L's, I have my 1L summer in perspective. In this economy many in the professional class are struggling to find beaucoup positions, and it's next to impossible for a baby lawyer to get a sweet-paying job, the moral of this recession for every type of professional, legal, financial, mental health, business(wo)man, academic, medical, public official, engineer, etc. is to be pragmatic and derive hope from the big picture. In the short-run I"m not being paid, but in the long-run this is a superb long-term investment, and sometimes it really pays to not get lost in the turmoil of the moment and think about the wider possibilities. :) Okay, I've prosletyzed enough
I fly from BHam tomorrow for 2 weeks to see my recently-divorced mom and make sure she's okay, and I can't wait to come back.
